Changing Wiper Blades

Anyone got any idea how to change the wiper blades on an S type.
It might sound like a daft question but with the bonnet up or down the wiper arm won't lift off the windscreen enough to put new wipers in.
I have changed many a wiper on previous cars and not come across a problem like this before.

Raise bonnet.
Remove the two round plastic covers from the wiper arms.
With a 13mm socket remove the nut which secures the wiper arm.
2 minute job.
