I just bought a nice Stype 2001 in France.
The driver's left window falls into the door. I had to lift it up with a wire.
Any idea on this failure ?
Is it necessary to change the whole lifter including the tatooed window itself ?

Many thanks for your help.

This is a common failure for <2002 S-Types. Do you have any warranty on it? If not, you will need to order a new window regulator. Some people say that it can be ordered from Lincoln dealership as 1999-2002 Lincoln LS has the same. You don't need to replace the glass.

Also, to lower the chances of breaking a regulator again, I strongly recommend that you NEVER slam a door shut with the window anything else but completely closed.  What happens is this:  There is a cheap plastic part that holds the glass and connects it to the moving part of the window lifter.  It handles up and down movement just fine, but was unfortunately not designed for sideways movement.  The horizontal torque imposed upon this part by shutting the door with the window only partially closed (too much wobble) is just too great.
Remember:  Close window.  Then close door.

Thanks for your valuable help.
I would like to disassemble the door myself to replace the device, but I could not find any book showing the proper way to do it either in France or on the net.
Any idea where I can find the information ?

It should be rather easy to do. Many folks report that Lincoln LS windows lifter of 2000-2001 model will also work and it's 1/2 the price. Not sure thought....
