I have a jag 2002 s-type 3.0 with 53K miles.  For the past 6 months we have been having issues with idling that appear to be fixed, but it appears to morphed into  a "failure to start (restart)".

The idle problem never posted an error message and either does the latest restart issue.

The car starts fine cold, but after a few trips I have trouble restarting the car when it sits 20-30 minutes.   In the past we have replaced the fuel pump, had the injector pressure tested (it was good) and cleaned.  I used fuel injector cleaner once as well.  The spark plugs were replaced when fixing the idle problem.

Jaguar techs appear stumped.  They can even reproduce the issue occasionally.  It seems that it happens more frequently when it is not very cold out, and more often in the warmer months.

It was suggested it may be the "Idle air control valve" and the tube leading up to it may be dirty.  I do not have a great deal of hands on experience, so I merely put this out there for comment.

Any suggestions, my wife loves the car but it is becoming difficult to think about keeping the car for much longer.

Not sure about your problem. The model changed in 2002 and I am not sure if you have the newer or older model..... Is it the model with newer ZF transmission or the FORD's one? Does it have newew facelift or the one of 99-2001 model
