Hey i'm new here, like maybe an hour, i've tried contacting the Florida Jaguar clubs but get no reply without paying money for help. SO here i am, my wife and i are looking at a 91 xj6 vanden plas as a weekend car and to use as a traveler.  we have never owned or had a jag in our family's so we don't know what it would require to maintain or if its even a good car to purchase. I do know it has approx 80k miles, 2 owners and has had regular maint. but don't know if it has had any major services done, ie: trans, moter, timing belt, electrical problems looked into.  Any advice i can get prior to a purchase is welcome, don't care if you don't even own a xj6, just want honest, no bull, no holding back replies. I don't want to get something that is going to be a money pit.  Thanks for your help.

Hey... It's a nice car.
I would suggest you look at the following:
-how good is the idling (rough?)
-if transmission changes gears without thumps etc
-drive a few miles on the bad road and see if there are any strange sounds
-go to local dealer and ask them to show any maintenance done based on the VIN #. See if it had any major replacements (tranny, engine, engine gaskets etc)..

Some people report electricity problems, charging problems, thumps when accelerating, rough idle, miss fires, cracked hoses, head gasket failures, power steering pump failures, bad oil pressure sending unit...
