Before reading on, i think its better to tell you guys about myself. I'm very young, only 18 years old male. I have saved up my money that i've worked very hard to earn (not allowance, not from parents, its my money) so I can finally buy a jaguar s type. I'm looking at spending 6-10,000$. I live in Canada. My brother is a licensed mechanic so this is a bit of a break for me.

The reason is simple, they are hands down no argument the best looking inexpensive car out. No argument. (Every single person I've told 'im buying a jaguar' they laugh and ask if i've won the lottery, everyone thinks jags are for like 50,000$ +)

However, I have wanted a jaguar s type for about 8 months now, been looking, researching, etc. I've found out that the 2000-2002 ones are extremely unreliable and have a tonne of issues. I also know the jaguar parts are extremely expensive.

I am actually from jaguarforums site. I came here to get more opinions.

To jaguar owners
-what year should i buy ?
-are jaguar s type REALLY as unreliable as people say?

This is the type of post that scares the crap out of me:
PLEASE!  I beg of you... DON'T buy a 2000 S-Type!!! You will be SOOOO VERY SORRY!  We bought one with 82,000 miles on it.  ON THE WAY HOME the transmission went out.  The next week... the NEW transmission went out.  4th week of owning it... that transmission went out.  Finally put a Ford transmission in there... no problem.  Just to get the front suspension aligned... $2500.  Electrical problems out the watoosie.  Put it in "Park" on even a very slight incline, you cannot get it out of Park into Drive... it breaks a $1 part... which will cost you about $1000 to get fixed!  I wish so badly we had looked up all the recalls and problems on the Jag before we bought it.  We found out that the 2000 - 2003 models have a horrible reputation.  But the 2000s are the worst.  I beg you.... PLEASE do not buy a 2000 S-Type.  If you are dead set on getting one... PLEASE, come to North Carolina and take ours off our hands!
