New member here!! Hello. I bought my first Jag (not running) hoping I can get it going with a little elbow grease and some cash!.. I bought the car for $1800 so I have money to drop in it to get it going.

I bought a 2001 S-type with 106k miles that did not run. I tried to start it several times with no luck.

At first it was not getting fuel, so I fixed that issue. Now I took off the valve cover (1 so far) and noticed that the secondary timing chain had snapped.

The secondary chain was still fastened to both cam gears as if the cams were not turning???..

I had a compression check done and I got very little compression to zero. I assume it's because the timing belt was broken leaving valves open.

My questions are:

1. Is there an easy way to check if my valves are bent?

2. When I replace the timing chains and guides how to I set the timing on the motor??

3. If I can't see if the valves are bent without a endoscope or taking the heads off and I get the chain back on,  I assume the motor will run rough??

My main Issue it how to I get the timing chain in the right place.
